Masculine noun. Plural: شَيَاطِينُ (shayāṭīn). From the root meaning 'to be distant/remote' (from God's mercy). Also called إِبْلِيسُ (Iblīs) as a proper name.

Culture

Satan in Islam is a jinn (not a fallen angel) who refused to prostrate to Adam out of arrogance. He has no power to force humans - only to whisper suggestions.
