قَلْبٌ

qalb

أَلَا بِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ تَطْمَئِنُّ الْقُلُوبُ

alā bi-dhikri Allāhi taṭmaʾinnu al-qulūb

Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah hearts find rest (13:28)

تَزْكِيَةٌ

tazkiyah

purification / spiritual growth / self-refinement

قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَنْ زَكَّاهَا وَقَدْ خَابَ مَنْ دَسَّاهَا

qad aflaḥa man zakkāhā wa-qad khāba man dassāhā

He has succeeded who purifies it, and he has failed who corrupts it (91:9-10)

نَبَأٌ

nabaʾ

news / tiding / important report

عَمَّ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ عَنِ النَّبَإِ الْعَظِيمِ

ʿamma yatasāʾalūn. ʿani an-nabaʾi al-ʿaẓīm

About what are they asking one another? About the great news (78:1-2)

غَفْلَةٌ

ghaflah

heedlessness / negligence / unawareness

اقْتَرَبَ لِلنَّاسِ حِسَابُهُمْ وَهُمْ فِي غَفْلَةٍ مُعْرِضُونَ

iqtaraba lin-nāsi ḥisābuhum wa-hum fī ghaflatin muʿriḍūn

The reckoning has drawn near for people while they are turning away in heedlessness (21:1)

هِدَايَةٌ

hidāyah

guidance / divine guidance

إِنَّكَ لَا تَهْدِي مَنْ أَحْبَبْتَ وَلَكِنَّ اللَّهَ يَهْدِي مَنْ يَشَاءُ

innaka lā tahdī man aḥbabta wa-lākinna Allāha yahdī man yashāʾ

Indeed, you do not guide whom you like, but Allah guides whom He wills (28:56)

عَفُوٌّ

ʿafuww

The Pardoner (divine name) / Most Forgiving

إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ عَفُوًّا غَفُورًا

inna Allāha kāna ʿafuwwan ghafūrā

Indeed, Allah is ever Pardoning and Forgiving (4:43)

كِبْرٌ

إِنَّهُ لَا يُحِبُّ الْمُسْتَكْبِرِينَ

innahu lā yuḥibbu al-mustakbirīn

Indeed, He does not like the arrogant (16:23)

حَسَدٌ

وَمِنْ شَرِّ حَاسِدٍ إِذَا حَسَدَ

wa-min sharri ḥāsidin idhā ḥasad

And from the evil of an envier when he envies (113:5)

تَقْدِيرٌ

divine decree / measurement / predestination

إِنَّا كُلَّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقْنَاهُ بِقَدَرٍ

innā kulla shayʾin khalaqnāhu bi-qadar

Indeed, all things We created with predestination (54:49)

تَوَاضُعٌ

tawāḍuʿ

humility / modesty

وَعِبَادُ الرَّحْمَنِ الَّذِينَ يَمْشُونَ عَلَى الْأَرْضِ هَوْنًا

wa-ʿibādu ar-Raḥmāni alladhīna yamshūna ʿalā al-arḍi hawnā

And the servants of the Most Merciful are those who walk upon the earth in humility (25:63)

أَمَلٌ

amal

hope / aspiration / worldly expectation

ذَرْهُمْ يَأْكُلُوا وَيَتَمَتَّعُوا وَيُلْهِهِمُ الْأَمَلُ

dharhum yaʾkulū wa-yatamattaʿū wa-yulhihimu al-amal

Let them eat and enjoy themselves and be diverted by false hope (15:3)

نَهْرٌ

مَثَلُ الْجَنَّةِ الَّتِي وُعِدَ الْمُتَّقُونَ فِيهَا أَنْهَارٌ مِنْ مَاءٍ غَيْرِ آسِنٍ

mathalu al-jannati allatī wuʿida al-muttaqūna fīhā anhārun min māʾin ghayri āsin

The description of Paradise promised to the righteous: therein are rivers of water unaltered (47:15)
