صَدَقَ
ṣadaqa
he was truthful / he fulfilled (a promise)
A2verbroot: ص-د-ق
صَدَقَ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ
ṣadaqa Allāhu wa-rasūluh
Allah and His Messenger spoke the truth (33:22)
ضَلَّ
ḍalla
he went astray / he was misguided
A2verbroot: ض-ل-ل
وَلَا الضَّالِّينَ
wa-lā aḍ-ḍāllīn
Nor of those who went astray (1:7)
أَنْعَمَ
anʿama
he bestowed favor / he blessed
A2verbroot: ن-ع-م
صِرَاطَ الَّذِينَ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ
ṣirāṭa alladhīna anʿamta ʿalayhim
The path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor (1:7)
أَجَلٌ
ajal
appointed term / deadline / lifespan

وَلِكُلِّ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلٌ فَإِذَا جَاءَ أَجَلُهُمْ لَا يَسْتَأْخِرُونَ سَاعَةً
wa-likulli ummatin ajalun fa-idhā jāʾa ajaluhum lā yastaʾkhirūna sāʿah
And for every nation is an appointed term. When their term has come, they will not remain behind an hour (7:34)
عَاقِبَةٌ
ʿāqibah
consequence / outcome / end result

فَانْظُرُوا كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الْمُكَذِّبِينَ
fanẓurū kayfa kāna ʿāqibatu al-mukadhdhibīn
So observe how was the end of the deniers (3:137)
فُرْقَانٌ
furqān
criterion / distinction (between truth and falsehood)

تَبَارَكَ الَّذِي نَزَّلَ الْفُرْقَانَ عَلَى عَبْدِهِ
tabāraka alladhī nazzala al-Furqāna ʿalā ʿabdih
Blessed is He who sent down the Criterion upon His Servant (25:1)
فَسَادٌ
fasād
corruption / mischief / decay

ظَهَرَ الْفَسَادُ فِي الْبَرِّ وَالْبَحْرِ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ أَيْدِي النَّاسِ
ẓahara al-fasādu fī al-barri wal-baḥri bimā kasabat aydī an-nās
Corruption has appeared throughout the land and sea because of what people's hands have earned (30:41)
إِصْلَاحٌ
iṣlāḥ
reform / reconciliation / setting right

إِنْ أُرِيدُ إِلَّا الْإِصْلَاحَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ
in urīdu illā al-iṣlāḥa mā istaṭaʿt
I only intend reform as much as I am able (11:88)
وَسْوَسَةٌ
waswasah
whispering / evil suggestion

مِنْ شَرِّ الْوَسْوَاسِ الْخَنَّاسِ
min sharri al-waswāsi al-khannās
From the evil of the retreating whisperer (114:4)

أَحَسِبَ النَّاسُ أَنْ يُتْرَكُوا أَنْ يَقُولُوا آمَنَّا وَهُمْ لَا يُفْتَنُونَ
aḥasiba an-nāsu an yutrakū an yaqūlū āmannā wa-hum lā yuftanūn
Do people think they will be left to say: We believe, and not be tested? (29:2)
عَهْدٌ
ʿahd
covenant / pledge / promise
A2nounroot: ع-ه-د
وَأَوْفُوا بِعَهْدِ اللَّهِ إِذَا عَاهَدْتُمْ
wa-awfū bi-ʿahdi Allāhi idhā ʿāhadtum
And fulfill the covenant of Allah when you have taken it (16:91)
مِيثَاقٌ
mīthāq
solemn covenant / binding agreement

وَإِذْ أَخَذْنَا مِيثَاقَكُمْ لَا تَسْفِكُونَ دِمَاءَكُمْ
wa-idh akhadhnā mīthāqakum lā tasfikūna dimāʾakum
And when We took your covenant: You shall not shed your blood (2:84)
